2023 in review
January
Visited Warsaw's Old Town. Despite the cold, it was a really good time for sightseeing, as there are not too many people at that time of the year.

Continuation of the swimming season for my kids, so we spent almost every weekend at the swimming pool. A younger son takes all the gold medals in backstroke and freestyle in the 9-year-old category.
February
I started the project of migrating three Artifactory instances into management with the use of Terraform. This required a script to migrate all resources to Terraform files (HCL), and writing pipelines in Gitlab CI/CD for further management.
March
Continue Artifactory migration to Terraform. Frustrated with how bad Artifactory REST API and JFrog Terraform documentations are.
We decided we needed a custom Terraform module for our use case. I have to write the modules and rewrite the migration script.

April
I resigned from a DevOps position at a startup that creates applications for the finance sector. I didn't feel the work culture they have at that company. Too many unproductive meetings and a lack of proper documentation killed my initial enjoyment.
I did a couple run sessions with my older son. I am too fat, and I guess I hurt my right knee. Due to pain, I am not able to ride my bike more than 20km.

May
Finally, I had some time to take my bike for a ride. The swimming season is almost finished. The younger son lost the 50-metre freestyle swim for the first time this season, accepted the silver medal quite well.
My Artifactory to Terraform migration project is finished. All instances have been migrated without issues. Fixing some minor issues with the Terraform modules.
June
End of the swimming season. My knee hurts from time to time. Limiting bike rides to only one per week.

Our management of Artifactory with Terraform works quite well. We are introducing new enhancements to the modules. I regret not making the final solution with the use of Terragrunt to fix some of the limitations Terraform has.
July
It is calm at work. There is not much to do, just some monitoring tweaks. Boring. It's a good time to learn something new, like AWS.
August
I visited Rhodes, Greece, with my family. One of the best vacations ever. We spent 10 days near Anthony Queen Bay, visited the Rhodes old town, and sunbathed a lot.

Kids are out at a camp, so I can do some remote work. I got a Linux laptop from work, so I'm working hard to rice it up for my needs.
September
I visited a specialist to fix my knee. I had a CT scan. The knee is ok, but it was overloaded for some time (running).
I bought my first gravel bike: Specialized Diverge Elite E5. I think I chose the wrong size, as my arms hurt during the ride. I'm trying to fit it up for me.

The work laptop with Ubuntu fails with Bluetooth for the first time. I spent a full day fixing it, but without success.
I'm still not sure if my bike is the right fit for me. Maybe I am not made for gravel bikes and should stick with cross bikes.
I travelled to Poznan to meet my remote team and work together on site.

October
Bluetooth fixed itself, probably with the latest kernel upgrade. BT is not the only sin of Ubuntu: issues with wifi after waking up the laptop from suspend mode or freezing while connecting to the network.
The swimming season has fully started. First two events and four gold medals for 9-year-olds. He is 3rd in Poland in 11yo and younger category.
This is a very hot autumn, so I walk a lot and ride my bike whenever I can. I made 10,000 steps every day.
November
We made a decision at work: it is time to migrate our on-prem Artifactory instances to AWS or GCP. I can't wait for the start of this project.
I was sick most of the month, so I did only one bike ride this month. After 55 days of 10,000 steps, I had to stop and have some rest. Damn you, flue.
December
My small swimmer was sick for three weeks and finished 3rd in backstroke. It was hard for him to accept it, even though the first place at freestyle didn't cheer him up.
The year is almost over, one week until New Year's Eve. It has been more than a year since I started this blog. One of my resolutions is to make more content here. I will add some entries about my daily job and challenges related to migrating Artifactory to Terraform.
