I think I am done with the MacBook
I have had a MacBook Air M1 for almost 2 years now. I decided I can give it a go after about 20 years of running Linux. It's based on BSD, so what can go wrong?
The first impression is good. Light, nice-looking, quiet, and fast. I do not like the glossy screen, but I love the image quality on it, so I can live with glossiness. I don't like that I always leave fingerprints on the screen bevel when I open it.
I like the keyboard, but I can't stand the idea of the Command, Option, and Control keys. While I still use a Dell laptop with a standard keyboard, I often use the wrong combination by mistake. Also, the location of the ~
key is a joke, not mentioning the shortcut needed to type national letters with Option + letter, while on a standard PC keyboard it is Alt + letter.
All above hiccups are something I can deal with. I can change the keyboard assignment on Dell to make it more similar to the one on Mac. I can use some stickers on the screen to make it matte.
There are many things I can somehow overcome with a bit of time and effort. But there is one thing that just makes me mad: this fucking finder does not have the option to create a file! What? Really? Noting in the context menu, no option in the toolbar. None.
Well, I can create a file inside a directory I have open in Finder, but I have to open a text editor, press Option, and drag the file icon to the finder. That's it, Mr. Obvious. I have to use a search engine to know how to create a file.
After those two years of using it, I find myself unable to apply the Apple way of being user-friendly. It seems like macOS is created for people who can't do anything without the mouse. I do most of the things without the mouse.
